What is NSFAS?

The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) is a government bursary that provides financial assistance to eligible South African students to study at public universities and TVET colleges.

Who Qualifies?

  • Must be a South African citizen.
  • Combined annual household income must not exceed R350,000.
  • For persons with a disability, the combined household income must not exceed R600,000.
  • Must be accepted to study at a public university or TVET college.

Required Documents

  • Certified copy of your ID document.
  • Certified copies of your parents'/guardian's ID documents.
  • Proof of income (payslips, SASSA letter, etc.).
  • Completed and signed consent form.

Key Deadlines for 2026 Intake

Applications typically open around September/October and close in late January. Stay updated on the official NSFAS website.
